The ATD Certification Institute (ATD CI) currently supports two professional credentials that are based on an appropriate subset of knowledge and skills found in the Talent Development Capability Model:
- Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD): The APTD is intended for talent development professionals who are early in their careers or who are focused on more narrow areas of expertise. The program eligibility starts at three years of work experience and twenty-eight (28) hours of TD-related professional development. There is one exam, and it covers the foundational knowledge required of a talent development professional after three years of experience. - Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD): The CPTD, formerly the CPLP, is intended for talent development professionals with five or more years of full-time professional work experience in talent development as well as broad knowledge of the talent development field. To earn the CPLP, professionals must successfully complete a single exam that focuses on the critical thinking and professional judgement used during day-to-day talent development activities. The exam covers the subset of knowledge and skills for the Talent Development Capability Model that professionals should have acquired after five years of experience.
